In 2015 on military duty, I was posted to a remote location in a northeastern state, a small village called Chapkikarong. Since I have a keen interest in learning about various cultures. So, I liked meeting many local people and making new friends.
One such visit to a local school kindled a passion for teaching as a volunteer teacher and giving back to society in ways I can.
It was a fine Friday winter morning; I went out on a regular visit to the village. It was part of our operational routine. While coming back, I decided to drop by the village senior secondary school.
So, I was speaking to class 10th students about their plans after class 10th and realized that most of them will drop out not willingly but because they lack resources or guidance, and in a majority of cases, both, and that kindred a troubling thought for me.
After returning to my post, I pondered the discussion and thought at least I could help them with what I have, i.e., Knowledge. I can teach them and, at the same time, guide them.
Thus, I started my journey as a "volunteer teacher."
I am a firm believer in Knowledge. Education is the solution to many social evils. The passion for community service I picked in 2015 remained with me, and I continued with that in whatever way I could.
Later in late 2021, someone introduced me to "eVidyaloka," an NGO doing yeoman service in educating children in the remote government village schools. I immediately onboarded myself.
Finally, I got an opportunity, and since then, I have been a Math teacher for class 6th students of a government school located in a remote place called Chengrabasa, Jharkhand. Those few hours are the most satisfying hours of the week. Those curious smiling faces are the best motivation.
